Irrigation water management for sustainable cultivation of date palm

Abstract Given the aesthetic, cultural, ecological, and economic value of date agro-system in Southwestern Tunisia, different management conservation strategies have been warrantee to optimize land productivity sustainably. However, inefficiency adopted actions resulted a continuous loss soil fertility decreasing fruit quality. Thus, present paper attempts evaluate accurately evolution principal factors influencing palm production agricultural activities sustainability region. Integrated approaches various irrigation water quality indices geostatistical analysis coupled with field investigation farming survey were applied key parameters development The obtained results research indicate that progressive degradation is due effects poorquality used for (EC between 674.4 5450 µs/cm, SAR exceeding locally 20 about 80% all samples waters are undoubtful according calculated indices), inappropriate scheduling (physiologic drought might reach 3 months), traditional basin technique (decreasing yield productivity, 0.23, 0.23 0.25 kg m ?3 ), an indigenous knowledge (sandy amendment, biologic compost, gravity improved irrigation…..).
